There was a certain type of fear that would strike the criminals of Dublin in the late 1990s to early 2010s. Anyone that was alive during that time knew to not even think of causing any mischief on the streets of baile átha cliath.
It was also a joyous time in the great capital of Ireland. Women would enjoy the Dublin night life without a care in the world. They would even walk the streets at 3am unaccompanied. But they were certainly not alone. The locals would come to call him, “The Tracksuit Crusader”, He was a menacing man, He would don a dark green tracksuit with a green mask to conceal his identity. His fighting style while effective, was the old art of drunken fighting, this on account of the fact that he was most certainly drunk the whole time. It was rumored he would drink at least 12 pints of Guinness before going out to keep the city safe. He was reckless, but ruthless.
But it was on April 6th 2013 when he went missing. We don’t know the significance of that particular day, or if he was even still alive, but Dublin was never the same after that. Criminals took to the streets a few years later and now the city is practically unrecognizable. It was once a tourist dream destination, voted as the world’s safest city in the world for 15 straight years. That Dublin is no more. He was thought to be no more.
This all changed last weekend when reports started pouring in that a middle aged man, slurring his words, and stumbling around protected a woman from being beaten and robbed by at least 50 men. While he wasn’t wearing his dark green tracksuit, the locals knew in that moment who he was. It was uncanny how he was flailing his arms and drooling everywhere. His signature profanity laced rants were still as effective as his uppercut. It was in that moment Ireland’s hero came back. The city of Dublin had their tracksuit crusader back. But the city was still a mess the next day. The nightly news in Dublin reported that while there was happiness in the hearts of many in the country, the criminals had not heard of Ireland’s vigilante. These were a new breed of lawbreakers. Where is Dublin’s own crime fighter when we need him the most?
It turns out, he’s been moonlighting as an MMA journalist since that fateful day of April 6th 2013, though we are still unclear on the significance of that day. It’s none other than Blanchardtown’s own Petesy Carroll. He outed himself on the Ariel Helwani show this past Monday. The streets of Dublin have been filled with chants calling it’s hero back to protect the streets of Ol’ baile átha cliath.
While this is a shocking turn of events, we will leave you with this quote from a local barkeep in Dublin, “He’s not the hero Dublin deserves, but the one it needs right now.”
Will he answer the call?
We will keep you posted on any new developments as the story unfolds.
