It’s been an up and down road for UFC fighter Michael Chandler (23-9) ever since his impressive win in his octagon debut against Dan “the hangman” Hooker. Unfortunately, ever since then he’s had four losses in his last five bouts. But make no mistake all his fights have been electrifying. He’s no stranger to having fun fights but at the age of 38, soon to be 39 in April, he wants to cement his legacy by becoming a UFC lightweight world champion. While his over the top confidence, and motivational speeches always leave us speechless. The UFC’s version of Tim Tebow, needs to do something new to get over the hump. And he’s done just that.

We interviewed Michael Chandler at his home gym and asked him what he will do that’s new? He said to us, “They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, well I’ve been learning new tricks since I came out of the womb.” When asked what those new tricks were, he stated, “I’m gonna employ the art of method acting but for fighting.” Before I could ask a following up question, he pushed me back and did a double back flip and said, “See you at the top!” and exited stage right, leaving me to find my way out of his house alone. As I was leaving the house, I could hear him yelling, “Walk on!” I couldn’t tell if he was directing that at me or it’s just something he says to himself as motivation. But it did leave me wondering what he meant by employing “art of method acting for fighting.” How do you do that in fighting?

All those questions were answered as soon as I saw a video he uploaded showing him in a blonde wig doing fighting motions preparing for his fight against Paddy “the Baddy” Pimblett (22-3) for UFC 314. It all makes sense now. I’m not sure about the wig though, but who am I to judge, I’ve never fought in my underwear while millions of people watched.

See you at the Top!
