In a stunning turn of events, the transition to the NBA for legendary MMA journalist Ariel Helwani was short lived. This just after The NBA Hour reported that Helwani, or “A-dubs,” as the fans call him, was set to join the New York Knicks just in time for the NBA playoffs this season. But as it turns out the deal was blocked by commissioner Adam Silver at the 11th hour. As for the NBA world, we haven’t seen fans this upset on social media since the Luka Doncic trade a few weeks ago. NBA legend Vince Carter was quoted as saying, “This would have been a tremendous boost for league ratings, a Canadian with handles like Steve Nash and a shot like SGA, come on man. It’s a no-brainer.” The news has also raised a few eye brows considering that UFC president Dana White recently joined the NBA board of directors. Coincidence? I’d rather not speculate but conspiracy theorists are going crazy today. There was one that stood out. It goes: Ariel’s the one who runs, The NBA Hour show, and he broke his own news. The theory goes on to say that Dana had special plans to show a video package of Helwani’s introduction to the Knicks during their last home game, but when Ariel broke his own news, it ruined Dana’s plans, again.
As I said before, I’d rather not speculate. We will keep you updated as the story unfolds. A shocking turn of events.
For those wondering:
It was this training video that got “A-dubs” noticed by the league.
