The Full History
2006–2007: ProElite and Showtime
ProElite and Showtime founded EliteXC in late 2006. Its first show was EliteXC: Destiny in February 2007.
2008: Prime Time
On May 31, 2008, EliteXC: Primetime on CBS, headlined by Kimbo Slice, was the first MMA event on U.S. network prime time.
October 2008: Collapse
On October 4, 2008, Kimbo Slice was knocked out in 14 seconds by late replacement Seth Petruzelli. EliteXC folded on October 20, 2008.
Why It Closed
Losses and a damaged star. Parent company ProElite had lost tens of millions of dollars, defaulted on debts and seen talks with Showtime fail. After headliner Kimbo Slice was knocked out in 14 seconds by Seth Petruzelli on CBS on October 4, 2008, the company shut down on October 20, 2008.
Legacy
EliteXC put MMA on network prime time for the first time, then collapsed months later.
